Celebrating Greek Independence Day with Premier Ford on the Danforth

The Danforth came alive as Ontario’s Hellenic community took center stage in an exciting Greek Independence Day parade.
Premier Ford, Citizenship Minister Ford, Education Minister Lecce, and other MPP colleagues were thrilled to be part of the spirited celebration, honouring the revolution of 1821 which led to Greece’s independence and democracy.

 Celebrating Sikh Heritage Month

It was an honour to join Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward, Regional Councillor Nav Nanda and Burlington Councillors Lisa Kearns and Rory Nisan and members of the Guru Ravidas Gurdwara Sahib to participate in the flag-raising ceremony celebrating Sikh Heritage Month. It’s a time when we come together to recognize the important contributions of Ontario’s Sikh community and thank them for the important role they play in our province.
Happy Happy Sikh Heritage Month!

Keeping Your Money in Your Pockets

I asked the Associate Minister of Transportation Vijay Thanigasalam about our government’s commitment to keeping hardworking Ontarians’ money where it belongs – in their pockets. Unlike the liberals and the NDP, our government is fighting against the burdensome carbon tax, and providing real relief to the people of Ontario.

This week we marked a significant step forward in Ontario’s fight against intimate partner violence and gender-based violence. Bill 173, the Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act, 2024, received unanimous approval and has been sent to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy.

Promoting Organ Donorship in Memory of the Humboldt Broncos

Six years have passed since the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash that claimed the lives of 16 people. My thoughts are with those who survived, the grieving families who lost loved ones, and the Broncos organization. In solidarity, my colleagues and I wore green for Green Shirt Day, a movement created to honour, remember and recognize all the victims and families affected by that fatal crash.

This day also serves to continue Bronco’s player Logan Boulet’s legacy by inspiring Canadians to have conversations with their families and register as organ donors, following his selfless act that saved six lives.

Collaborating with the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada

This week’s discussions at Queen’s Park were enriching as MPPs joined the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada for their advocacy day.
I had the chance to engage in fruitful conversations with Don, Ken, Andrea, Tracy, Ryan, and Patrick on critical innovations in their industry.
Grateful for their valuable insights and collaborative spirit.

Keeping Ontario’s Trails Alive

It was a pleasure meeting with the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders (OFTR) at Queen’s Park. Their dedicated advocacy for Ontarians who cherish trail riding and outdoor exploration is truly commendable. Grateful for their efforts in promoting outdoor recreation across the province.

Great to have constituent Alan Harrington at Queen’s Park! He enjoyed watching Question Period and experiencing our democracy in action.
Alan spoke of his grandfather’s bravery at Vimy Ridge and his plans to visit the site. The freedom and democracy we enjoy was made possible by heroes like Alan’s grandfather.

Ontario Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes

This week, the Ontario government introduced the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, 2024, as part of its ongoing commitment to cut red tape, speed up government processes and build at least 1.5 million homes by 2031.
This spring 2024 red tape reduction package includes a variety of measures that would improve service delivery while saving people and businesses time and money. These targeted steps would build on the actions Ontario has taken to cut red tape to date, which are expected to save people and businesses over 1.5 million hours and $1.2 billion every year.

Paying Tribute to our Fallen Heroes

As we commemorate Vimy Ridge Day, we pay tribute to the remarkable courage and sacrifice of the Canadian soldiers who served. Among the approximately 100,000 who fought, over 10,600 became casualties, with nearly 3,600 making the ultimate sacrifice. Their unwavering dedication to duty and their commitment to defending freedom and justice will forever be remembered by a grateful nation. Lest we forget.
