Ontario Invests $933 Million for 80 Long-Term Care Projects – 1,856 New and Redeveloped Spaces for Halton Region Seniors

Oakville North-Burlington – MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care, announced today that the Ontario Government is making an historic investment in long-term care spaces for our seniors in Ontario. The government will build 80 new projects towards our goal of 30,000 needed long-term care spaces over ten years. With this new allocation, Ontario now has 20,161 new and 15,918 redevelopment spaces in the development pipeline
In Halton Region, today’s newly announced projects are:

Overall, today’s announcement and the spaces announced over the last year mean that Halton Region will see 1,565 new spaces and 291 redeveloped spaces for Halton Region seniors.

Families want to know that their loved ones will receive the supports they need in long-term care. We have also committed to increasing direct care from 2.75 hours a day to 4 hours a day over four years – the only province to do this in Canada.”
“From 2011 to 2018, the Liberal Government only opened 611 new long-term care spaces in Ontario. I am proud that our government is building thousands of new long-term care spaces, which are particularly needed in fast-growing communities such as Oakville North-Burlington. As a result of our investments, many Ontario ridings, including our community, will have more new beds than the Liberals created in the entire province in seven years.”

• These projects are part Ontario’s Long-Term Care Modernization Plan.
• As of December 2020, more than 40,000 people across Ontario were on the waitlist to access a long-term care bed.
• Across the province, the Ontario government is moving forward with 80 new long-term care projects, which will lead to an additional 7,510 new and 4,197 upgraded long-term care spaces.
• Ontario is investing $933 million in these projects provincewide, on top of the $1.75 billion already earmarked for the delivery of 30,000 new spaces over ten years.
• Ontario has committed to an average of four hours of direct care per day for our loved ones living in long term care homes. Ontario is the first province in Canada to take this important step
