“Our kids are going back to school this September and we will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. This includes the $600 million we’ve budgeted to optimize air quality and $3.7 million for 32 schools in Oakville North-Burlington. I am very pleased that Ontario is working with public health units and school boards to host vaccination clinics to protect our education staff and students.” – Effie Triantafilopoulos MPPPublic Health Units to Run COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics in SchoolsThe Ontario government is working with public health units and publicly funded school boards to plan and host vaccination clinics in or nearby schools to continue to fight COVID-19. Clinics are expected to run before school starts and during the first few weeks of school. The program is part of the province’s last mile strategy to target those who have yet to receive a first or second dose and will provide accessible and convenient access to vaccines for eligible students and their families, as well as educators and school staff who are returning to school this fall.

Every Wednesday this summer, people across Ontario are helping clean up our parks, conservation areas, riverbanks, and shorelines. It’s all part of an initiative called Waste Free Wednesday and on August 18th I joined my friends MPP Andrea Khanjin and MPP Stephen Crawford, as we took a team of volunteers to help clean up Oakville’s Coronation Park on the shores of Lake Ontario.Andrea is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Ontario Environment Ministry, and she launched Ontario’s Day of Action Against Litter, held annually. It’s part of our government’s commitment to a clean environment. We need to take action at all levels of government, but we all know that action at the community level is vital. Let’s all help to keep our community clean and green!.I had a very informative meeting with the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Thank you for your commitment to providing quality eye care for the people of Ontario, including seniors and children.August 19th was Burgers to Beat MS Day at A&W. I was proud to present you with an Oakville North-Burlington Spirit Award and thrilled to meet my constituent Kevin who was picking up a burger and showing his support.

Also ran into my friend and colleague Deepak Anand!I would like to wish the Ukrainian community in Ontario and in Oakville North-Burlington a Happy Independence Day. It was a pleasure to recognize the significant contributions of Ukrainian-Canadians in Ontario and across Canada for our country and internationally, and to honour those who fought for an independent and democratic Ukraine. It’s a pleasure to work with our Ukrainian Canadian community in Oakville North-Burlington at St. Volodymyr Orthodox Ukrainian Church and St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.Happy Independence Day to all my friends of Pakistani origin! This year was the 75th Anniversary of the independence of Pakistan and I offer my congratulations!Ontario’s Solicitor General Sylvia Jones met with the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight (SCEMO). I had the chance to ask the Minister about Ontario’s current vaccination rates compared to other jurisdictions and the issue of third doses of the vaccine offered for more vulnerable people. SCEMO reviews Ontario’s COVID19 emergency orders once a month, reviewing the orders in operation and holding the government accountable on behalf of the public. At the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference, I had the opportunity to participate in meetings with delegations from Halton Region. We had great discussion of shared priorities including rural broadband, infrastructure, long-term care and health. I want to thank Ministers Kinga Surma, Christine Elliott, PA Vincent Ke and PA Randy Pettapiece for listening to the needs of our communities as well as the advocacy of our municipal leaders Rob Burton, Marianne Meed Ward and Colin Best. Working together we can continue to build strong and resilient communities! As Parliamentary Assistant to Long-Term Care Minister Rod Phillips, I was pleased to continue my meetings with municipal leaders and their delegations from Kapuskasing, Ontario, County of Renfrew, Kirkland Lake, Tillsonburg, Ontario, Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Conmee, and Welland, Ontario at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario virtual conference. We discussed our government’s commitment to 30,000 new long-term care spaces over 10 years and increasing direct care hours from 2.75 to 4 per resident per day, and how this works with each community. Also, a key priority is the community paramedicine program and its further expansion to enable more seniors to stay in their own homes longer.  We will continue to work with our municipal partners to provide resident-centred quality care to Ontario’s seniors.Ontario Makes COVID-19 Vaccination Policies Mandatory for High-Risk SettingsTo combat the high transmission rate of the Delta variant and based on the recent experiences of other jurisdictions, Ontario, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is taking action to increase protection for our most vulnerable, including frail seniors, immunocompromised individuals and young children who are not yet eligible for vaccination. This includes making COVID-19 vaccination policies mandatory in high-risk settings, pausing the province’s exit from the Roadmap to Reopen and providing third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to vulnerable populations. The Ontario government is also expanding eligibility for the Pfizer vaccine to children born in 2009 or earlier.Ontario Providing More Support to Communities During COVID-19The Ontario government is providing an additional $307 million to help municipalities and Indigenous community partners deliver critical services, create longer-term housing solutions and keep people safe.
