Our Ontario government has made a $1.9 million investment through the Ontario Together Fund in Oakville-Burlington based manufacturer Canadian Hospital Specialties Limited. Today, MPP colleague Stephen Crawford and I met with CHS CEO Mike Canzoneri, VP of Non-Acute Sales and Marketing David Donnelly, and VP of Acute Sales and Marketing Alfonso Deitrich to discuss the expansion of Ontario’s domestic healthcare manufacturing capacity and emergency readiness. Partnership with CHS will help alleviate pressure across our healthcare system. CHS is also Ontario’s largest manufacturer of Naloxone kits. As we all work together to combat the opioid epidemic in Ontario, CHS will help get this life saving drug into the hands of more Ontarians. You can help save lives. Click the link below to find the nearest pharmacy or community organization that will give you a free Naloxone kit and training on how to properly administer the drug in case of emergency: https://www.ontario.ca/page/where-get-free-naloxone-kit

This week, I was pleased to shine a light on the importance that Agriculture and agri-business plays in Ontario’s economy. I met the co-founder of Nuba Tisane with MPP colleagues Stephen Crawford and Natalie Pierre. Our government was proud to invest in this mother and daughter agri-business team through a Canadian Agricultural Partnership Grant.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Laurie Ann, Sara and the Longo’s team this Thursday! While working hard to feed our community, the Longos North Oakville team also works to ensure their displays are picture perfect. Laurie Ann, Sara and their Longos colleagues are receiving a Foodland Ontario Silver Award of Merit for their excellence in promoting Ontario produce. As 1 of 36 Ontario retailers to be given this honour, we congratulate all the Longos North Oakville employees who contributed to this success.

Today, I presented another outstanding Burlington retailer with a Foodland Ontario award. Nino and the Longos Walkers Line team were 1 of 12 Ontario retailers who received a “Cross-Merchandized” Gold-Category award. This award is granted to a retailer who displays excellence in their display of Ontario non-produce items cross- merchandised with comparable Ontario commodities and appropriate signage. This degree of excellence was apparent when I saw the great work they did with their seasonal display of Pumpkins, Squash, and all the other great veggies we love in the Fall.

Congratulations to you all!

Winter Road Maintenance and Preparedness Our government is continuing to keep Ontario roads and highways safe this winter by adding more plows, increasing proactive use of anti-icing liquids and building additional weather stations. You can keep yourself safe this winter by getting a maintenance checkup, keeping your fuel tank at least half full, packing an ice-scraper and washer fluid, and putting together a winter survival kit.

International Day of the GirlOn Wednesday, the world celebrated International Day of the Girl. Sentiments from a world unified by the bravery of the young girls and women in Iran and across the globe fighting for their freedom and equality were shared on social media and in the news. Witnessing their courage in protesting against a repressive regime inspired us all, and the world stands with all women who seek basic rights and freedoms. Injustice will no longer be tolerated. Our hearts go out to those who have lost their lives. May Mahsa Amini rest in peace.
