Minister of Long-Term Care Rod Phillips and MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos announce 2,000 additional nursing graduates by 2024-2025Oakville North-Burlington Update – October 29th, 2021

“I am proud that we are investing up to $100 million in training for Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Nurses to advance their careers in long-term care. We know that more staff means more care for residents and it’s why we are offering PSWs up to $6,000 a year and eligible Registered Practical Nurses up to $10,000 a year in financial support. This news means another 2,000 nurses will join long-term care by 2025, offering quality, compassionate care to residents. We are committed to fixing long-term care.” – Effie Triantafilopoulos MPP
Expanding Career Growth Opportunities for Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Nurses in Long-Term CareWith Long-Term Care Minister Rod Phillips and Colleges and Universities Minister Jill Dunlop, I visited the Hellenic Home for the Aged to announce career growth opportunities for Nurses and Personal Support Workers in the long-term care sector. It was an honour to have the participation of the spiritual leader of the Greek Orthodox community in Canada, His Eminence Archbishop Sotirios and John Fanaras, Board Chair of the Hellenic Home.I am proud that we are investing up to $100 million in training for PSWs and Nurses – we know that more staff means more care for residents. It’s why our government is offering PSWs up to $6,000 a year and eligible Registered Practical Nurses up to $10,000 a year in financial support. I am also proud that our government also provided $13 million for a new 128 bed Hellenic Home which will become one of three Greek homes offering culturally enriched care to residents. Our government is committed to fixing long-term care.

It was my pleasure to participate in the Bright Star Drive-Thru organized by my friend James Montague at Oakville Town Hall. The event recognized more than 120 individuals with disabilities who continue to shine despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and each received a Star Medal. 30 individuals from Oakville and 30 from Burlington were recognized. Thank you to Halton Police, Oakville Fire and Halton EMS for attending and showing your Support for the event.I had the opportunity to tour Acclaim Health’s new dementia centre Patty’s Place. The centre will include 8 respite rooms, an Adult Day Program for frail older adults, caregiver support for families and best practices in dementia friendly design. This state-of-the-art building will be a centre of excellence for dementia care in Ontario and will help support vulnerable seniors in Oakville. Thank you to the generous members of our community in partnership with the Ontario government who helped raise the much-needed funds to complete this worthwhile project. With MPP Stephen Crawford I was pleased to visit Canadian Hospital Specialties Ltd, a national distributor of medical and surgical products with its speciality manufacturing and kitting done in Oakville. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Ontario. More than 27,000 Canadians will be diagnosed this year alone. It’s important to check for the signs of cancer and seek medical attention if concerned. Together let’s work to shine a light on breast cancer. Proudly wear your pink ribbon and support thousands of Canadians affected by breast cancer. Please click here to watch the videoOntario Enshrining the Right to Wear Poppies in the Workplace
The Ontario government is introducing legislation today that, if passed, would amend the Remembrance Week Act, 2016 to give Ontario workers the right to wear a poppy in the workplace during Remembrance Week. By wearing a poppy, Ontarians remember the bravery and valour of Canadian Armed Forces veterans and active members who fought to preserve peace around the world, protect Canada and defend its freedom and way of life.Creating a Better Future for Workers

The Ontario government is introducing legislation that, if passed, would better protect, support, and attract workers to the province. These proposed new measures would promote healthy work-life balance and will further enable competitiveness by banning unfair non-compete agreements that are used to restrict work opportunities, suppress salary increases and wage growth.Halton Women’s Place – Online Chat Service
