“ Ontario Premier Doug Ford was in Texas last week to strengthen economic ties between Canada and the United States. During the visit, the Premier met with industry leaders and business partners across Texas to advance tariff-free trade and expand cross-border investment opportunities. The Premier highlighted Ontario as the best destination for investment, job creation, and business growth, emphasizing its highly skilled workforce, competitive business environment, and strategic access to North American markets. The visit reflects Ontario’s commitment to building strong partnerships with key U.S. states such as Texas and reinforcing its position in an increasingly competitive global economy. The Premier continues to engage with partners to drive innovation, attract investment and support the next generation of workers and businesses across Ontario.” —MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Ontario Expanding WSIB Coverage to More Frontline Care Workers

The Ontario government is taking action to strengthen workplace safety protections for 29,000 additional frontline care workers by extending mandatory Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage to all privately operated residential care facilities, retirement homes and group homes. This expansion closes a long-standing gap that has left thousands of workers without protection if they are injured or become ill on the job and is another step in our government’s plan to protect workers and build a more resilient Ontario.

Ontario Increasing Access to Primary Care Across the Province

Our government is taking the next step in its plan to connect every Ontarian to a family doctor or primary care provider by 2029. Through a new 2024–28 Physician Services Agreement, Ontario is increasing physician compensation, introducing incentives to take on more patients, and expanding access to evening and weekend care. These changes will help recruit and retain more doctors, support patients with complex needs, improve access in rural and northern communities, and reduce pressure on emergency departments. Building on the province’s $3.4 billion Primary Care Action Plan, over 330,000 people have already been connected to primary care surpassing the province’s target and keeping Ontario on track to deliver more convenient, connected care for families.
