While the U.S. didn’t announce new reciprocal tariffs on Canada, the previously announced tariffs remain in place, continuing to hurt businesses and workers on both sides of the border. Premier Doug Ford has been in constant communication with the federal government, working closely to ensure Ontario’s voice is clearly heard in Ottawa. His advocacy played a key role as the federal government consulted with all premiers before announcing targeted countermeasures, including a 25% tariff on U.S.-made vehicles not compliant with the USMCA.
Our government is laser-focused on urging the U.S. to immediately lift their harmful tariffs. Premier Ford has consistently prioritized protecting Ontario’s economy, demonstrated clearly by his recent meetings in Washington with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick highlighting Ontario’s commitment to fair trade and mutual economic benefit.
At the same time, our government will do whatever it takes to support Ontario’s businesses and workers affected by these unjustified U.S. tariffs. Under Premier Ford’s leadership, Ontario remains steadfast, resilient, and determined to defend our province’s economic interests. – MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Ontario Government Quickly Responds to The Ice Storm Damage

Premier Doug Ford, Emergency Preparedness and Response Minister Jill Dunlop, Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce, and Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Rob Flack were in Orillia and Oro-Medonte to inspect damages from the recent ice storm and met frontline volunteers and workers.

•The Ministry of Energy and Mines has been in constant coordination with Hydro One and local utilities, along with Premier Ford, to ensure that resources, power workers, and support are extended to the communities most impacted by the ice storm.
•We appreciate the hard work of so many over the past few days, including first responders, power workers, local mayors, and community members who have been clearing roads so power can be restored.
•While hundreds of thousands of residents now have power restored, there is still a lot of work ahead.
•To the families affected: Ontario utilities, first responders, and the Ontario Corps are working around the clock, deploying workers, generators, and infrastructure to support you and restore power.

Ontario Opens First Nine Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment Hubs

Starting April 1, nine drug injection sites located within 200 metres of a school or child-care centre have successfully transitioned into and opened as new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hubs. These hubs, located in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph and Thunder Bay, are part of the Ontario government’s almost $550 million investment to support the creation of a total of 28 new HART Hubs across the province to protect the safety of children and families, while improving access to recovery and treatment services for people struggling with addictions. Consistent with HART Hubs’ focus on lasting addictions recovery, provincial funding is contingent on hubs not providing any drug consumption services.
