I was pleased to visit Evertz Technologies Limited in Burlington with the Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, Stephen Crawford, and Jamie Wallace, Chief Executive Officer of Supply Ontario.

A Historic Milestone for the Zoroastrian Community
Congratulations to the Ontario Zoroastrian Community Foundation (OCZF) on the official opening of its new Ateshkadeh in our North Oakville community. More than 1,000 people attended from across North America, including the Minister of Children, Community and Social Services, Michael Parsa. The historic event marked the opening of the first consecrated Zoroastrian place of worship outside of India. This new spiritual home stands as a place where Zoroastrians can gather in unity, reflecting their commitment to preserving their faith.
Best wishes were extended to the Ontario Zoroastrian Community Foundation as it continues to support and strengthen the Zoroastrian community.
Preserving Oakville’s History
Congratulations to Sophia and Aliya on their outstanding work researching and creating a new exhibit for the Oakville Historical Society celebrating the work of renowned satirical cartoonist Steve Nease. Thank you to George Chisholm and everyone at the Oakville Historical Society for supporting this important project.
The Oakville Historical Society continues to play an important role in preserving our local heritage with support from programs including the Heritage Organization Development Grant and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Oakville Mourns the Loss of Councillor Marc Grant
I was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Oakville Ward 5 Councillor Marc Grant. For 23 years, Councillor Grant served our community with dedication, integrity, and genuine care for the people he represented. He was a thoughtful and respected public servant who worked tirelessly to make Oakville a better place to live.
His passing is a tremendous loss for Oakville and for all who had the privilege of knowing him. My heartfelt condolences are extended to his family, friends, colleagues, and the residents of Ward 5 during this difficult time.
Premier Ford Sends Letter to Prime Minister Carney Urging Extension of Federal Fuel Tax Relief
Premier Doug Ford has sent a letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney urging the federal government to extend the suspension of the federal excise tax on gasoline and diesel until at least January 1, 2027, saying Canadians continue to face affordability challenges and cannot afford higher costs at the pumps. In his letter, Premier Ford highlighted Ontario’s decision to permanently reduce the provincial gas and fuel taxes in 2022, a measure that has returned $2.3 billion to the pockets of hardworking families and local businesses while saving households an estimated $500 each. He also called on the federal government to match Ontario’s approach by making the federal fuel tax suspension permanent.
Sharing the news on social media, Premier Ford wrote: “Canadians can’t afford higher taxes at the pumps right now. The federal suspension of excise fuel taxes ends in a month. This morning, I wrote to Prime Minister Carney to urge him to extend this relief to at least January 1. Or better yet, match Ontario’s ambition and cut it for good.”
Ontario Investing $55.8 Million to Open the First Medical School for Family Doctors
To protect Ontario’s health-care workforce, the Ontario government is investing $55.8 million to support the planning and operations of York University’s new school of medicine. As the first medical school in Ontario that is focused on training family doctors, the York School of Medicine is expected to open in 2028 and will bolster Ontario’s pipeline of highly skilled primary care providers, helping fulfill Ontario’s commitment to ensure that everyone who wants to have a primary care provider can access one.

Ontario Investing $16 Million to Help Smaller and Rural Communities Access Safe and Reliable Transit
The Ontario government is investing nearly $16 million through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund (OTIF) to help small and remote communities build safe and reliable transit services. This investment will support five projects benefiting 30 communities, protecting Ontario’s economy and connecting more people to jobs and opportunities across the province.
“Our government is investing in safe and reliable transit that keeps people moving, strengthens communities and supports a stronger, more resilient and self-reliant economy,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “No matter where you live, Ontarians deserve access to transportation they can depend on. Through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund, we are expanding transit options that connect people to jobs, housing and essential services.

Ontario Investing $4.6 Million to Bolster Life-Saving Medical Isotope Production at McMaster University
The Ontario government is investing an additional $4.6 million to increase production of cancer-fighting medical isotopes at the McMaster Nuclear Reactor. This builds on the government’s $18 million investment last year to expand operations at the reactor to 24 hours per day, seven days per week, creating good-paying jobs, accelerating innovative research and delivering cutting-edge treatments. As part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario, leveraging the province’s nuclear advantage will further position Ontario as a global leader in nuclear medicine innovation and build a more resilient economy in an increasingly competitive global market.

Ontario Government Delivers New GTA Transmission Line On Time and Under Budget
As part of its plan to protect Ontario and build a stronger, self-reliant economy, the Ontario government is marking the completion of another critical energy infrastructure project on time and under budget that will help the Greater Toronto Area keep pace with rising electricity demand. The new Etobicoke Greenway project, a 230-kilovolt line running 6.5 kilometres through an existing corridor between Richview and Manby Transformer Stations in Etobicoke, will deliver up to 300 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 300,000 homes in western Toronto, southern Mississauga and Oakville. During construction, the project supported 100 jobs and came in on time and $10 million under budget, with the savings being put toward a recreational trail alongside the transmission corridor.

Ontario Takes Next Step to Reopen Brantford Jail
As part of the government’s $3 billion investment to expand adult correctional capacity and keep communities safe, the province is exploring the reopening of the Brantford Jail. This reopening could add up to 125 beds to the correctional system in Ontario and support the government’s ongoing work to protect Ontario by keeping violent and repeat offenders behind bars.

Oakville to Celebrate Ukraine’s 35th Independence Day
The community is invited to the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Flag-Raising Ceremony on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at the St. Volodymyr Event Centre (SVEC), 1280 Dundas St. W., Oakville.
Hosted by St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, and the Town of Oakville, the ceremony will include a flag raising, an official proclamation by Mayor Rob Burton, and a community photo. Guests are encouraged to wear a Vyshyvanka and bring a Ukrainian flag. The event is free and open to the public.
Celebrate Local Art at the Bronte Farmers’ Market on August 9
The Oakville Arts Council will once again be participating in the Bronte Farmers’ Market on Sunday, August 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a diverse showcase of local artistic talent, featuring works by the Oakville Sculptors and Woodcarvers Guild, Imprint Glass, and Omar Gilani. The event offers a wonderful opportunity to meet local artists, discover unique handcrafted creations, and celebrate the vibrant arts community in Oakville.
