“Ontario is investing $100 million over the next three years to fund critical projects in education, prevention, and community planning to address gender-based violence. By focusing on areas like early intervention, service integration, and economic security, our government is ensuring that local communities have the resources they need to protect women and girls and promote their financial independence. This investment, as part of our broader $1.4 billion commitment, will create safer and more resilient communities for the future.” — MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Ontario Investing in New Supports to Address Gender-based Violence

The Ontario government is launching a call for proposals for new community-based projects that support survivors of gender-based violence. These initiatives will focus on preventing violence through education and awareness, building safer, healthier communities and enhancing well-being and economic opportunities for people and families.

Ontario is investing $100 million over the next three years in its four-year, cross-government action plan to combat gender-based violence, building on the province’s existing investments of $1.4 billion over four years to end gender-based violence and support victims.

The call for proposals is now open until October 11, 2024. Organizations with innovative projects or approaches that help prevent or address gender-based violence are invited to apply. The province will invest in projects that respond to the needs of local communities in four key areas:

  • education and awareness
  • early intervention and prevention
  • community planning and service integration
  • economic security and financial independence

Goodyear Canada Inc. Investing More Than $575 Million to Expand Ontario Plant, Creating and Securing More Than 1,000 Jobs

From mining critical minerals to building cars and batteries, Canada is attracting historic investments to help secure and create jobs, grow our economy and keep our air clean. In the last four years, we’ve seen companies announce more than $46 billion in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing investments across Canada. They want a reliable partner with world-class talent and this is exactly what we have to offer.

This week, the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, joined representatives from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company to announce the company’s more than $575 million project to modernize and expand its plant in Napanee, Ontario. This investment will help Goodyear create an energy-efficient, end-to-end manufacturing process and increase its production capacity, including EV and all-terrain tires.

The project will create 200 new, highly skilled manufacturing jobs by 2027 and secure more than 1,000 jobs in Napanee. This project will get the Goodyear Napanee plant to net-zero emissions by 2040, helping achieve Canada’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.

More Child Care Fee Reductions Coming for Ontario Families

Ontario is taking the next step in lowering child care fees for families as part of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system. Starting in January 2025, parent fees will be capped at $22 per day for children under the age of six in CWELCC programs, resulting in additional savings of nearly $300 million in 2025 for families.

Ontario continues to call on the federal government to increase funding to this national program so it is sustainable for families throughout the province. This advocacy reflects Ontario’s unique agreement with the federal government which included a mid-agreement program review. Ontario’s new $22 per day fee cap for children under the age of six in programs enrolled in the CWELCC system will reduce fees for 44 per cent of these spaces. That means families facing the highest fees — often those with the youngest children living in less affordable communities — will see the largest fee reductions. This change will result in additional savings of nearly $300 million in 2025 for these families.

Ontario will continue to work with the federal government, municipalities, and operators to build a sustainable early years and child care system that meets the needs of children, families, and professionals in all communities across the province.
