Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter December 19, 2025
December 19, 2025
“ Our government, through Budget 2025, is increasing hospital sector funding by 4% for 2025–26, ensuring Ontarians continue to receive high-quality care close to home. Hospitals received 3% of this increase earlier this summer, with an additional 1% now being dedicated to targeted support.
This targeted funding is designed to address key structural pressures, including challenges faced by small and northern hospitals and those experiencing hallway health care. The investment will help hospitals plan sustainably, improve stability, and protect access to essential services for patients and families.
As part of this initiative, Halton Healthcare will receive $5.5 million in targeted funding. This investment is an important first step within the government’s Health Sector Stabilization Plan, supporting long-term sustainability across Ontario’s hospital system.”.—MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Burlington Fire Department Received Provincial Funding to Enhance Safety
The Burlington Fire Department was awarded $135,808 through Ontario’s Fire Protection Grant to strengthen cancer-prevention efforts and enhance emergency preparedness. This funding supports advanced bunker gear cleaning and inspection, improved decontamination equipment, and safer responses to emerging risks such as lithium-ion battery incidents.
Thank you to Fire Chief Karen Roche, Deputy Chief Drew Boys, and the entire Burlington Fire team for their dedication and leadership in keeping our community safe.

Fibre Network Expansion in Oakville
Faster, future-ready connectivity has come to Oakville. I was pleased to attend the groundbreaking by telMAX as they begin their expansion of their pure fibre network into our community, bringing more reliable, high-speed service to residents and local businesses. Behind the scenes, local organizations like Food4Kids Halton are doing life-changing work for families in our community. My team and I were happy to volunteer with Food4Kids, which provides healthy food to over 1,200 children across Halton each week. Their dedication ensures children have the nutrition they need to learn, grow and thrive. Thank you to the staff and volunteers for the care and compassion they bring to this vital work.

Salvation Army Kettle Bell Campaign
Giving back is at the heart of the holiday season. This week, my team and I were delighted to support the Salvation Army Kettle Bell Campaign at Dundas and Appleby Line Fortinos. Thank you to all Salvation Army volunteers who make a meaningful difference for families in need and to all the shoppers who contributed. Their generosity ensures support is available for our neighbours when they needed it most.

I provided congratulatory message from Premier Ford to the Lions Club on this remarkable milestone. Thank you to the dedicated volunteers whose generosity and leadership continued to strengthen our community.

Housing Affordability and Rental Stability Discussions
Housing affordability and rental stability remained major concerns for residents across Oakville North-Burlington. I met with representatives from the Oakville Milton and District Real Estate Board and Cornerstone Inc. to discuss the recent rental market changes introduced through Bill 60 and ideas to further modernize the Landlord and Tenant Board so disputes could be resolved more efficiently and fairly. Thank you to Lorraine McLachlan, Heidi Noel, John Rich, Stephane Hamade and Sandra Longden for sharing their insights and perspectives.

Ontario Launches Bid to Make Toronto Home to Defence, Security and Resilience Bank
Ontario government, in partnership with the City of Toronto, federal MPs and hundreds of supporters from the financial services, accounting, telecommunications, transportation, manufacturing, legal, tech, defence and academic and research sectors, announced its support for Toronto’s bid to headquarter the newly established Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB). As a global financial services hub, the country’s economic engine and a centre of technology, research and international business, Toronto brings together the conditions a major global institution needs to operate successfully: stable capital markets, sophisticated investors, a deep talent base, reliable global transportation links, extensive consular services and a predictable, rules-based environment within a G7, NATO-allied country.

Ontario Taking Next Steps to Unlock Free Trade Within Canada
For decades, red tape and burdensome regulations have held Ontario’s economy back, increasing the cost of goods and services for manufacturers and families alike and limiting the ease with which Ontario-made products could be traded with our provincial and territorial partners,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Mutual recognition will play a pivotal role in unlocking new market opportunities for Ontario goods and services, and further advance Ontario’s leadership in strengthening trade security and diversification.
