“Today, I joined a deeply moving vigil hosted by Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services (SAVIS of Halton) to honour the 14 young women who were murdered at Montreal’s l’École Polytechnique on December 6, 1989. These young engineering students were targeted and killed simply because they were women, in a heinous act of gender-based violence. As we reflect on this dark chapter in Canadian history, we are reminded not only of the lives lost that day but also of the continuing prevalence of gender-based violence and violence against women. It is a stark reminder that so much more needs to be done to ensure women’s safety.
We must continue to confront the attitudes and behaviours that allow such violence to persist. By remembering these women and standing in solidarity against all forms of violence, we honour their memory and recommit ourselves to building a future where women and girls can live free from fear, with safety, respect, and equality.”
“– MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Meeting With Flo Bellman and Paul Henderson

Flo Bellman and Paul Henderson visited my office today to honour the memory of their daughter Darian, whose life was tragically taken as a result of violence against women. Their strength in sharing her story reminds us of the devastating toll of violence against women and the urgency to act. Today, and every day, we are called to channel this pain into purpose—to advocate for a future where women and girls can live without fear, and their safety and dignity are protected above all else.

Attended Canadian Croatian Choral Society’s Christmas Concert

Last weekend, I was invited to the Canadian Croatian Choral Society’s Christmas Concert with special guest Klapa Kartolina at St. Pauls’ Church in Oakville.  This popular event is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Croatia’s rich musical heritage and celebrate music and song with some Christmas cheer. Mia Milicevic was incredible as the artistic director, ably accompanied by pianist Adam Mezgec. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!

Celebrating the 19th year of Gift of Giving Back Community Food Drive, Canada’s largest youth led Food Drive!

The Oakville Rangers and Oakville Hornets Minor Hockey Leagues joined forces this year for the first time at the 19th annual Gift of Giving Back Community Food Drive.  With the inspirational efforts of these young hockey players, Gift of Giving Back had it’s largest haul in funding and food donations!  Our team took part in the closing ceremony and spoke to the crowd about the excellent work Jean Longfield, founder and Chair, has done developing this event. We were joined by leadership teams from charitable organizations such as Kerr Street Mission, Feed Halton, Food for Life, and Halton Learning Foundation.

Meeting with The Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association.

Today, I had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Oakville Fire on behalf of the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association. Hearing their concerns and discussing the critical work they do to protect our community was a reminder of their invaluable contributions. These dedicated professionals go above and beyond to ensure our safety every day, and their advocacy helps strengthen Ontario’s emergency response systems.
I look forward to joining them for their annual Toy Drive at Coronation Park, spreading holiday cheer and supporting families in need!

Ontario is the Economic Engine of Canada

I had a very productive meeting with members of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters and the Canadian Manufacturing Coalition during Manufacturing Day at Queen’s Park. The CME and the Coalition represent more than 30 industry associations, more than 36,000 companies, and the 787,000 Ontarians directly employed in the manufacturing sector. Together, we are once again making Ontario the economic engine of Canada!

Getting ready for winter

Winter weather can start early. Follow these tips so you’ll be prepared for the first snowfall.
