Exciting News for Ontario’s Automotive Industry

Our government is thrilled with today’s announcement from Ford, which will see an initial 1,800 Ontario workers return to the Oakville Assembly Complex a year earlier than anticipated. This move is in response to increased customer demand and will support the expanded production of 100,000 F-Series Super Duty trucks, including a future electrified version.
This $2.3 billion investment is not just a win for Oakville. It will also add 400 new jobs to the Oakville Assembly Complex and create an additional 150 jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex. Ford’s announcement demonstrates the company’s continued confidence in the end-to-end automotive supply chain we have built in the province and in our world-class manufacturing talent.
Ontario has secured $43 billion in automotive investments over the last four years, cementing our status as a global auto manufacturing powerhouse. This latest development is a testament to our strategic efforts and commitment to revitalizing the manufacturing sector.
Our government will continue to deliver on our promise of bringing back manufacturing as part of our plan to rebuild Ontario’s economy. This includes creating thousands of good-paying jobs across the province, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for all Ontarians.
We celebrate this significant achievement and look forward to further strengthening our economy and workforce with continued support and strategic investments in the automotive sector.

Ready-to-Drink Beverages and Large Beer Pack Sizes Available in Grocery Stores Sooner Than Planned

As the next step in the government’s plan to give people in Ontario more choice and convenience, licensed grocery stores will be able to order ready-to-drink beverages and large beer pack sizes starting Thursday, July 18, 2024, and begin selling them immediately upon arrival. This new timeline accelerates the first phase of the government’s plan to expand alcohol sales to grocery, convenience and big-box stores by allowing the 450 grocery stores that are currently licensed to sell beer, cider or wine to sell them once they arrive in store, rather than August 1.

By the end of October 2024, as part of the government’s plan to expand alcohol sales that was originally announced in May 2024, every convenience, grocery and big-box store in Ontario will be able to sell beer, cider, wine and ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages if they choose to do so. Over time, this new, more open marketplace will introduce up to an estimated 8,500 new stores where these products can be sold, the largest expansion of consumer choice and convenience since the end of prohibition almost 100 years ago. As the province implements its plan, the government will continue to constantly evaluate how it can deliver choice and convenience.

Ontario Awards Contract to Connect Highway 400 to Bradford Bypass

The Ontario government is getting shovels in the ground on a new interchange at Highway 400 and Simcoe County Road 88 and a new southbound lane on Highway 400 that will connect to the future Bradford Bypass. Construction begins this summer and marks a significant milestone in the province’s plan to fight gridlock across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, help commuters spend less time in traffic and create good jobs for workers in the region.

The construction contract has been awarded to Dufferin Construction Company and includes building part of a southbound lane on Highway 400 that will connect to the new Bradford Bypass, reconstruction of the Highway 400-Simcoe County Road 88 interchange and its underpass bridge, widening Simcoe County Road 88 from two to four lanes and widening the Highway 400 platform to accommodate future expansion to 10 lanes.

In May, the Ontario government awarded the contract for the detail design of the west section of the Bradford Bypass, which will run 6.5 kilometres from Highway 400 to Simcoe County Road 4. The Bradford Bypass will be a vital link for communities in York Region and Simcoe County, providing better connections to jobs and housing. During construction, the project is expected to support up to 2,200 jobs annually and contribute up to $286 million to the province’s gross domestic product (GDP).
