Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter July 4, 2025

July 4, 2025

The Ontario government continues to strengthen and protect Ontario’s health-care system by making it faster and easier for people to access publicly funded surgeries and procedures. This is part of a $125 million investment to add up to 20,000 orthopedic surgeries—like hip and knee replacements—at community surgical centres across Ontario over 2 years. This expansion in services will help to reduce long wait times for orthopedic surgeries ensuring they are done faster and more conveniently, and ensuring that 90% of patients receive care withing the recommended timeframes.

It also builds on a recent investment of $155 million to add 57 community surgical and diagnostic centres to connect over 1.2 million people to MRI and CT scans and GI endoscopy services; as well as a $235 million investment to support over 130 new and expanded primary care teams connecting 300,000 people to care this year.

These vital investments will produce better health results and ensure families can conveniently access the care they need sooner and closer to home. — MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Oakville North–Burlington Marked Canada Day by Honouring Seniors and Caregivers

We continued a proud tradition on Canada Day with the 6th Annual Canada Day Parade, visiting seniors and frontline health workers in long-term care and retirement homes.

We visited 12 residences in Oakville and Burlington, bringing patriotic cheer and celebrating the seniors who had built our province and thanking the dedicated staff who care for them. With the support of Oakville Fire service, Burlington Fire service and Halton Region Police, and enthusiastic volunteers, this year’s drive-by celebration was a heartfelt reminder of the special community, province and country we live in.

Ontario Reducing Wait Times for Orthopedic Surgeries

The Ontario government is protecting the province’s health-care system by making it faster and easier for people to connect to publicly funded surgeries and procedures.

“While Ontario has the shortest surgical wait times of any province in Canada, we’re working to deliver even more connected and convenient care for people, when and where they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “That’s why our government is taking bold action to protect Ontario and boost access to publicly funded surgeries and diagnostic imaging so families can conveniently access the care they need sooner and closer to home.”

Ontario Capping Rent Increases at the Rate of Inflation
Ontario Government is protecting tenants with 2.1% cap.  This cap is the lowest in four years, as part of our plan to protect tenants, keep costs down and ensure that residents across our province can access homes that meet their needs and their budget.
From January 2025 to May 2025, Ontario saw 6,977 rental starts, an increase of 25 per cent compared to the same period in 2024. This is the second-highest level of rental starts on record for this time of the year, after 2023, and showcases our government’s plan to get shovels in the ground to build more homes, faster.
