As part of its $2.1 billion Primary Care Action Plan to connect every Ontarian with a publicly funded family doctor or primary care team, the Ontario government has announced a $235 million investment to create and expand over 130 primary care teams. This will provide access to care for 300,000 more people this year.
This investment builds on the February 2024 announcement of $110 million in initial funding for new and expanded interprofessional teams. That was part of a larger $546 million, three-year plan to connect up to 600,000 people to team-based primary care across the province.
We are continuing to strengthen Ontario’s leadership in access to regular health-care providers. Expanding primary care teams ensures people across the province can get the care they need and deserve—while protecting the future of our health-care system. — MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos
