Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter June 6, 2025
June 6, 2025

“The Ontario government is investing over $4.2 million to expand nursing education and is making it easier for U.S. licensed nurses and physicians to work in the province—key steps to strengthen the health-care workforce and improve access to care across Ontario. This includes $2 million to launch an accelerated RN degree program at Conestoga College, St. Lawrence College, Western University, and York University, allowing students to graduate in 3 to 3.5 years. At the same time, Ontario is cutting red tape to fast-track qualified American health professionals into the system. These efforts will help ensure more trained health professionals are available to provide timely, high-quality care for families across the province.”– MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Notre Dame Student Shay Parreira Awarded 2025 Loran Scholar
The Loran Scholars Foundation is one of Canada’s most prestigious scholarships, recognizing students with exceptional character, leadership potential, and a deep commitment to service.
In addition to financial support, it offers a four-year leadership program, mentorship, and access to a national network of changemakers.
I was proud to attend an event at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School to recognize and congratulate Shay Parreira, who was named the 2025 Loran Scholar. Ontario Cutting Red Tape to Protect Workers, Families and Jobs
Ontario government introduced the Protect Ontario by Cutting Red Tape Act, 2025, that if passed, would support the province’s goal of cutting red tape to make Ontario the most competitive place in the G7 to invest, create jobs and do business. The legislation is a key part of the 2025 Red Tape Reduction Package
that contains over 50 new common-sense changes to improve services, keep costs down and protect Ontario’s economy.

Ontario Building New Transmission Lines to Power Growth Across the Province
Ontario is growing fast and so is our energy demand,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines. “That’s why we’re planning early and advancing approximately 160 km of new and upgraded transmission lines to connect people and businesses to the affordable, secure, reliable and clean energy they’ll need in the years ahead.
After announcing the largest nuclear expansion in Ontario history, we are building for the future by advancing one of the largest transmission expansions in Ontario history. This is part of Ontario’s long-term integrated plan for economic self-reliance.

You’re Invited: 6th Annual Canada Day Drive-by Parade – July 1, 2025!
I would like to extend my personal invitation to you to attend the Sixth Annual Canada Day Drive-by Parade on July 1st, 2025
I organized the Canada Day Parade for the first time in 2020, as a safe way to celebrate Canada Day and showcase our community spirit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our route in a convoy of cars will take us past long-term care and retirement homes in our community of Oakville North-Burlington. This will be a great opportunity to greet seniors in long term care and thank the frontline healthcare heroes who care for them.
On the day of the parade, we will distribute maps of our route so that you can easily follow along. We encourage you to decorate your vehicle with Canada Day Flags and other decorations! We will also have a limited supply available. Please bring snacks and water with you—it’s a long day!
There are going to be two separate parades, one for Oakville and one for Burlington – I welcome your participation in both or only one.
The Oakville parade will depart at 9:30 am sharp from my constituency office located at 2525 Old Bronte Road. Please arrive no later than 9:00 am.
