Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter March 20, 2026

March 20, 2026

Our government is continuing to take meaningful steps to improve access to health care for residents across our community. Through the Primary Care Action Plan, we have already surpassed our goal of connecting 300,000 people to a primary care provider, reaching over 330,000 patients ahead of schedule.
We are also moving forward with a provincewide Primary Care Medical Record system to ensure more seamless, connected care—reducing the need for patients to repeat their medical history and allowing health professionals to focus on delivering quality care.
Additionally, new and expanded primary care teams are being introduced, with the potential to connect up to 500,000 more people to care across Ontario. More details will be shared soon.” —MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Ontario Expands Addiction Recovery and Treatment System

The Ontario government is supporting local addiction recovery and treatment programs while protecting communities by addressing the distribution and open use of illegal drugs. As part of this approach, provincial funding for Consumption and Treatment Services sites will end upon the expiry of their current Health Canada exemption.
The province is focused on building a system of care that connects individuals to treatment and helps break the cycle of addiction. This includes continued advancement of the Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub model, supported by nearly $550 million in investment to establish 28 hubs delivering comprehensive, recovery-focused services across Ontario.
In addition, nearly 500 new Addictions Recovery Fund beds have been established, serving 7,000 clients each year. Through these measures, the government aims to break down barriers and ensure more people can access the care they need, when and where they need it.

Ontario Opening HOV Lanes to More Drivers on Provincial Highways

The Ontario government is proposing a regulatory amendment to the Highway Traffic Act that would allow single-occupant vehicles to use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes during off-peak hours, making better use of existing highway infrastructure to help reduce gridlock and keep drivers moving on provincial highways. Ministry of Transportation modelling shows the change would improve travel times for all users, with average speeds increasing in both HOV and general-purpose lanes across major highways during off-peak hours. If implemented, this change would take place before the end of 2026, following a period of public consultation.
