“The Ontario government has announced major steps to strengthen the province’s economy, energy system, and critical minerals development. Construction of the all-season road network to the Ring of Fire is expected to begin in June 2026, five years ahead of schedule, in partnership with First Nations. The project aims to connect remote northern communities and unlock one of Canada’s most significant critical mineral regions, with the province projecting about 7,000 jobs over the next 30 years.

Premier Doug Ford said the plan will help protect Ontario workers and expand economic opportunities across the province. The announcement comes as Toronto hosts the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2026, the world’s premier mining convention, bringing together more than 27,000 industry leaders from over 125 countries. Energy and Mines Minister Stephen Lecce also announced a national agreement to expand electricity transmission across Canada.” —MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos
