Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter May 1st, 2026

May 1, 2026

“ Our government is expanding access to fertility care through a historic $250 million investment. In 2026/27, $100 million will support 27 clinics across Ontario, including new IVF clinics, helping reduce wait times and connect thousands of families to care.

In our community, Oakville will benefit from expanded services through Halton Fertility and Women’s Health Centre, supporting more local families.
This builds on earlier investments and will deliver thousands of additional IVF treatments over the next two years.
Our goal is clear: to ensure more families can access high-quality fertility care, closer to home, when they need it most.”—MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Driving Investment and Innovation in Oakville

My colleague MPP Stephen Crawford joined me in a productive discussion with Craig Tavares, President and COO of Buzz High Performance Computing, regarding a proposed data centre investment in north Oakville.

I appreciated the opportunity to connect and exchange perspectives on how projects of this nature can align with Ontario’s economic and infrastructure priorities.

Protecting our Communities and standing firmly against Hate.

I had the opportunity to meet with ICNA Canada at its Oakville location at Al Falah Islamic Centre to highlight Ontario’s $80,000 investment through the Anti-Hate Security and Prevention Grant in support of safety and security enhancements.
This funding will help safeguard places of worship and ensure that community members can gather in a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.
Our government remains committed to working alongside community partners to combat hate, promote inclusion, and ensure that Oakville North–Burlington continues to be a safe and welcoming community for all.

Supporting Hospitality and Tourism Growth Across Ontario

It was a pleasure to welcome the Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association to Queen’s Park.
Ontario’s restaurants, hotels, motels, and broader hospitality sector play a vital role in strengthening our tourism industry. They support local employment, welcome visitors from around the world, and contribute significantly to economic growth across communities in Ontario.
Our government remains committed to supporting this important sector through strategic investments in festivals and events, promoting Ontario as a world-class destination through Destination Ontario, reducing costs for small businesses, and lowering the small business tax rate from 3.2% to 2.2%, effective July 1, 2026.
We extend our sincere thanks to ORHMA and all industry partners for their continued advocacy and valuable contributions to Ontario’s tourism and hospitality industry.

Improving Regional Governance for Stronger Communities

This week, I participated in the Standing Committee on Heritage, Infrastructure and Cultural Policy, where we heard from witnesses, including representatives from Halton Region, regarding Bill 100, the Better Regional Governance Act.
This legislation is focused on strengthening regional governance to support more timely decision-making, reduce inefficiencies, and deliver the housing and infrastructure which communities need.
Working in partnership with municipal leaders, the Government of Ontario is taking decisive action to ensure regional governments remain representative, effective, and focused on delivering results.

Ontario Completes Major Milestone on G7’s First Small Modular Reactor

Ontario is building the Western World’s first Small Modular Reactor, creating 18,000 good-paying jobs,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines. “Ontario just executed with great precision the first foundation of a new nuclear reactor in Ontario in over 30 years. This is a major achievement as the world turns to Ontario to refurbish and build large scale nuclear on-time and on-budget. For the first time, Ontario has secured over 100 Canadian-based businesses to help build the components for SMRs, infusing over $500 million into Ontario’s economy. Our government is deeply committed to building more in Canada, which is why we are proud to invest at least 80 per cent of every dollar in the Canadian supply chain.
