“This week, Associate Minister of Auto Theft and Bail Reform Graham McGregor and MPP Stephen Crawford, and I participated in a Public Safety Forum, organized by members of the Oakville community, to discuss growing concerns about crime and safety. These discussions are yet another example of a broad frustration—people feel that our justice system is failing to hold offenders accountable and that the measures in place are not strong enough to protect victims and communities. This sentiment is echoed across Ontario and beyond, with both the public and police emphasizing the need for mandatory minimum sentences to address serious crimes and deter repeat offenders.
In response to these concerns, I introduced a Motion in the Ontario Legislature this week, calling on the federal government to restore mandatory minimum sentences for serious crimes. This is not just an Ontario issue—all provincial governments across Canada have called for urgent bail reform, and just last month, Ontario’s Solicitor General renewed the call for immediate federal action. My Motion is calling on the federal government to reinstate minimum mandatory sentences so as to restore accountability in our justice system and protect the safety of Canadians.”-

The Ontario government is making it easier and more convenient for people to connect to the care they need.
