Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter October 10, 2025
October 10, 2025
“The Ontario government is leading the world in cancer care by launching the Funding Accelerated for Specific Treatments (FAST) program, making Ontario the first jurisdiction in Canada to fast-track access to breakthrough cancer drugs. This bold, three-year pilot will connect patients to life-saving treatments nearly a year sooner by expediting access to 7–10 high-priority cancer drugs annually, approved through Health Canada’s Project Orbis pathway. Faster access means less waiting and more hope for thousands facing cancer. Ontario continues to lead by putting patients first and improving access to cutting-edge cancer therapies.” MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Inspiring Afternoon at Hellenic Women’s Networking Event by HCLA
I was pleased to attend an informative and moving Hellenic Women’s Networking event hosted by Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association – HCLA.
This event brought together incredible women from across Ontario’s legal and Hellenic communities to network, share stories, and support one another.
Our immense gratitude to keynote speaker Maria Mitousis who shared a powerful and authentic message about leadership and resilience – her generosity of spirit will stay with us. A special thank you to HCBT President Agapi Mavridis and the HCLA board for organizing such an inspiring afternoon.

Celebrating Resilience and Artistry at the GIFFT Closing Night
An incredibly moving and powerful evening in celebration of Hellenic culture and cinema with Greek International Film Festival Tour of Canada.
It was a pleasure to attend the closing feature of “Stelios” in Toronto. A powerful film about the legendary Greek singer, a Pontic refugee who overcame hardship through his talent and resilience.
Over the past three years, GIFFT has showcased 53 films across 11 cities in Canada, bringing people together, giving new filmmakers a voice, and keeping cultural traditions alive through modern storytelling. It’s inspiring to see Ontario’s support for events that celebrate both culture and creativity.
Thank you to the organizers, sponsors, artists, and everyone who came out to honour this closing feature.

Fighting for Ontario Jobs: Ford Urges U.S. to End Unjust Tariffs
At the Canada–U.S. Summit organized by the Eurasia Group, Premier Doug Ford delivered a clear message: Canada must stand up for itself and push back against unfair U.S. tariffs. These tariffs do nothing but raise costs for families and businesses — on both sides of the border — and threaten good-paying jobs in Canada and in the United States.
He indicated that the time had come for the U.S. to drop these unnecessary measures and work with us to build a stronger, more resilient Canada–U.S. economic partnership.
We will always fight for Ontario workers and families, support fair trade, and strengthen our cross-border relationship with the United States.

Ontario Pays Tribute to Fallen Fire Fighters at Annual Memorial
At the annual Ontario Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial at Queen’s Park, Premier Doug Ford joined families, fire fighters, and community members to pay tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. We will never forget their courage, their service, or the deep sacrifices made by their loved ones.
