Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter October 18, 2024
Our government is preparing to release the annual Fall Economic Statement, setting the table for the next phase of our plan to build Ontario.
Over the past six years, we’ve made significant progress in rebuilding Ontario’s economy. We are investing in critical infrastructure—building roads, highways, hospitals, schools, transit and homes.
However, there is more work to do, and we must continue moving forward.
On October 30th, Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy will release the 2024 Fall Economic Statement, outlining the next chapter in our government’s commitment to responsibly managing Ontario’s finances, and delivering results for families, workers, and businesses across the province. Stay tuned!

Visting Mike and Carmen to Learn more About ALS
It was a privilege to meet Carmen and her husband Mike, who has bravely been living with ALS for the past 7 years. Their strength and commitment to Mike’s quality of care in their home is truly inspiring.
They reached out to Premier Doug Ford and felt his support when he called them back. Together, we will continue working to help families impacted by ALS and provide the support they deserve.
Participated in a Citizenship Ceremony at Oakville Town Hall
It was an honour to participate in a Citizenship ceremony at Oakville Town Hall, where 38 individuals and families from 12 different countries, took the Oath of Citizenship and officially became Canadian citizens. This significant milestone marks the beginning of their new Canadian journey, and their contributions will undoubtedly enrich both our community and our country. It also allowed me to renew my Citizenship Oath to Canada and new monarch King Charles III.
Congratulations to all!
Visited Promation, a leading automation manufacturer in Oakville
As part of Ontario Manufacturing Month, I had the opportunity to visit Promation, a leading automation manufacturer based right here in Oakville.
Since 1995, they’ve been delivering innovative, custom solutions across the nuclear, automotive, and industrial sectors, playing a critical role in Ontario’s economy.
Under Premier Ford’s leadership, we’re building a stronger, more competitive future for manufacturing in Ontario.
Manufacturing Roundtable to keep Ontario’s manufacturing sector strong.
I had a productive manufacturing roundtable with the SBEC, Halton Economic Development, and the Oakville and Burlington Economic Development teams. We focused on driving innovation, supporting our local small businesses, and keeping Ontario’s manufacturing sector strong.
Proud to collaborate on initiatives with the great leadership teams in our Halton community!
Supporting our Entrepreneurial Small Businesses
I had a great meeting with Pranjal and Disha of Svaraa Spirits, an Oakville-based company dedicated to bringing premium spirits, wines and beers to Canada, while also helping Canadian brands expand globally.
Small businesses like Svaraa Spirits are integral to Ontario’s economy. Excited to see how they’ll continue to grow and contribute to Ontario’s success in the beverage industry!

Today’s energy needs are growing, and Ontario is stepping up!

While others struggle to keep up, we’re focused on delivering a strong plan that ensures reliable, affordable energy for Ontarians, now and in the future.
Ontario Fighting Gridlock and Making Life Easier for Drivers
The Ontario government is making life easier for drivers by introducing legislation that would, if passed, require municipalities to receive approval from the province before installing new bike lanes that would result in the removal of lanes for traffic. Municipalities would be required to demonstrate that the proposed bike lanes won’t have a negative impact on vehicle traffic.
hese proposed changes are part of upcoming legislation that will kick off the fall sitting of the Ontario legislature on October 21, 2024, with a focus on tackling gridlock and getting drivers and commuters across Ontario out of traffic.

Ontario government unveiled the next phase of its life sciences strategy, aimed at driving innovation, boosting investments and enhancing research to further solidify the province as a global leader in biomanufacturing and health sciences. This includes a $146 million investment to help fuel the sector’s growth.
“As we rebuild Ontario’s economy, the life sciences sector will play a critical role in driving growth and creating good-paying jobs for people right across the province,” said Premier Doug Ford. “The significant investments we’re making in the sector are unlocking new opportunities, accelerating the development of life-changing medicines and technologies and helping to keep people healthy. Ontario Supporting Grieving Families of Stillborn Children
Ontario parents who have experienced a stillbirth now can receive a commemorative document in remembrance of their child. The Ontario government is also removing the associated cost and simplifying the process of obtaining a certified copy of stillbirth registration.
“A stillbirth is a heartbreaking experience for any family. Our government understands the importance of honouring the memory of a lost loved one, and we are proud to be the first jurisdiction in Canada to eliminate fees for stillbirth documents,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. “We are standing by our grieving families by providing this commemorative document and easing administrative and financial burdens during what is already an extraordinarily difficult time.”

Ontario Increasing Wildland Firefighting Capacity
The governments of Ontario and Canada are investing $64 million to strengthen the province’s wildland fire program. The funding program will enhance Ontario’s firefighting abilities, allowing the province to hire and train key personnel and fund the purchase of new support equipment and technology, including fuel systems, tankers, trucks and software systems.
“Our government is making critical investments in our wildland fire program – on the ground and in the air – to keep Ontario at the leading edge of wildland firefighting,” said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources. “As an internationally recognized leader in wildland fire safety, we are preparing for more frequent and complex fire seasons to protect our communities now and in the future.”

Ontario Building Highways Faster to Get Drivers Moving
The Ontario government is introducing legislation that would, if passed, allow the province to build highways faster, getting drivers out of gridlock and where they need to go. The Building Highways Faster Act would designate priority highway projects to speed up construction, with Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass and the Garden City Skyway bridge all set to receive this designation.
“Every minute wasted in traffic is a minute that could be spent with friends, family, and the people who matter most,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “Our government understands how frustrating it is to be stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and the need to build highways and roads to help get people moving. That is why we’re moving forward with the common-sense changes, like 24/7 construction, proposed in this legislation.”
