Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter October 31, 2025

October 31, 2025

“The Ontario government is investing $1.1 billion over three years to expand home care services and the Hospital to Home (H2H) program, easing pressures on hospitals and freeing up beds. This includes $982 million to strengthen home care, connecting patients with nurses, physiotherapists, and social workers so they can recover at home. Over $170 million will enhance H2H, creating 18 new sites and expanding 23 existing ones. Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy emphasized the importance of delivering care in the right place, while Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones highlighted faster, flexible access to support patients’ recovery and independence in their own homes.” –MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

It was wonderful to meet Vice Presidents Miriam and Chris, along with their senior team Patricia, Rani, and Ricardo, who shared how innovation and teamwork have driven their success.

Commemorated OXI Day

We commemorated October 28, 1940 — the day Greece courageously rejected fascist occupation with a single word, OXI (No). This act of defiance inspired worldwide admiration and marked the beginning of Greece’s 219-day resistance during the Second World War.
OXI Day is a powerful reminder of the values we hold dear: freedom, democracy, national sovereignty, and the courage to stand against tyranny. As we reflect on this historic moment, we recognize the strength and perseverance of the Greek people and the lasting contributions of Hellenic culture, history, and ideals to the world.

Honoured to Preside as Deputy Speaker at the Fall Session

It has been a productive first two weeks back at Queen’s Park as the Legislature resumed for the fall session. As Deputy Speaker, it continues to be an honour to preside over debates in the Chamber and ensure proceedings remain respectful, fair, and focused on delivering results for the people of Ontario.
Over this sitting period, Members debated several key pieces of legislation focused on strengthening public safety, supporting families, and making life more affordable.
Parliamentary debate is the foundation of our democracy, and I am proud to play a role in ensuring every voice in the Legislature is heard. Thank you to my colleagues from all parties for their constructive participation.

Welcomed Parliamentary Delegation from Ghana to Ontario

I was honoured to join Speaker Donna Skelly in welcoming a Parliamentary delegation from Ghana to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. During their two-day visit, the parliamentarians and senior officials observed our legislative proceedings at Queens Park and took part in several business sessions focused on legislative research, drafting practices, the Standing Orders, and Private Members Bills and Motions. They also joined a roundtable with Members of Provincial Parliament to exchange ideas on transparency, democratic engagement, and strengthening parliamentary services. Canada and Ghana share more than 60 years of strong bilateral relations, built on cooperation in the Commonwealth and the United Nations. Visits like today’s deepen our shared commitment to good governance, parliamentary democracy, and international friendship.

Ontario Takes Action to Ban Municipal Speed Cameras

This week at Queen’s Park our government continued its work to make life more affordable and keep communities safe. Ontario introduced legislation to ban municipal automated speed enforcement cameras across the province. For too long municipalities have used these cameras as a cash grab rather than a real safety tool Drivers shouldn’t face surprise tickets weeks later when governments should focus on lowering costs for families.
Instead we’re creating a provincial fund to help municipalities install real traffic calming measures like speed bumps, roundabouts and safer school zones.
Our goal is clear keep streets safe protect families and lower costs for Ontario drivers by investing in solutions that prevent speeding before it happens.

In the face of tariffs and global economic uncertainty, it’s never been more important to make life more affordable for the hardworking people of Ontario. Through our proposed HST rebate on new homes for qualifying first-time home buyers, we are leading by example – saving families money on one of the biggest financial transactions of their lives,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Minister of Finance. Ontario families deserve more money back in their pockets and we are continuing to build on our track record of doing just that.
