Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter September 04, 2026

“Families, workers, and businesses across Ontario continue to feel the impact of economic uncertainty as U.S. tariffs place added pressure on household budgets, workers and local economies. Under Premier Doug Ford’s leadership, our government is taking action to help keep costs down, protect jobs, and support the economic strength of communities across the province.

Through our nearly $30 billion relief plan, we are providing support for workers and businesses while helping build a more resilient and self-reliant economy. These measures are designed to help Ontario communities navigate current challenges and create opportunities for long-term growth.

Our government is also making life more affordable for families and businesses by permanently cutting provincial gasoline and fuel taxes. This measure is putting $2.3 billion back into people’s pockets and helping households save an estimated $500 each year. Lower fuel costs also help reduce the cost of transporting goods and services, easing pressure on everyday products and expenses.

In addition, our government has introduced measures focused on financing, investment, trade, and employment to help workers and businesses remain competitive in a changing global economy. By supporting job creators and strengthening local economies, we are helping communities remain resilient during uncertain times.

We are also urging the federal government to make its suspension of the federal fuel excise tax permanent. Together, these actions reflect our government’s commitment to affordability, economic resilience, and a stronger future for Ontario families, workers, and businesses.”—MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Premier Doug Ford Calls for an End to U.S. Tariffs on Canada

Premier Doug Ford spoke with ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz from the shores of Lake Ontario about the impact of U.S. tariffs on Canada and the United States. During the interview, Ford emphasized that tariffs on Canadian products ultimately act as a tax on American consumers, raising costs for families and businesses on both sides of the border. He also highlighted the importance of standing up for Canada and protecting workers and industries affected by the ongoing trade dispute. The interview came as tensions between Canada and the United States continued over tariffs and trade negotiations. Ford’s message was clear: ending the tariffs would help lower costs, protect jobs and strengthen the economies of both countries.
