“This week, investors and business leaders from around the world came to Toronto for the first-ever Canada Investment Summit. Premier Doug Ford invited investors to discover the opportunities that make Ontario stand out as we work together to build the strongest and most resilient economy in the G7. Ontario has what the world needs: reliable energy, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, world-class technology and a highly skilled workforce. With 94,000 STEM graduates entering the workforce each year and strong expertise in technology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing, Ontario offers businesses the talent they need to grow. We are also investing in our future by building the first small modular reactor in the G7, expanding nuclear generation, unlocking the economic potential of the Ring of Fire and building the infrastructure needed to support long-term growth. The results speak for themselves. Last year alone, Ontario attracted $35 billion in new business investment from more than 750 companies that created 64,000 jobs. By cutting red tape, speeding up approvals and reducing taxes by $12 billion annually, Ontario continues to create the conditions that attract investment, support businesses, and create good-paying jobs for workers and families across our province.”

Effie’s Annual BBQ Brings Oakville North–Burlington Families Together
I was so thrilled to welcome so many families, friends and neighbours to our annual Community BBQ on September 13th at Valleyridge Park. It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with members of our community, enjoy some good food, and make the most of a beautiful afternoon together.
I was pleased to be joined by The Honourable Stephen Crawford, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement, Mayor Rob Burton, Jeff Knoll and Julia Hanna, who came out to celebrate with our Oakville community.
From soccer and face painting to henna and the incredible sounds of the High Rendition Jazz Band, there was something for everyone to enjoy. It was wonderful to see so many families coming together, connecting with neighbours and enjoying the afternoon.
A huge thank you to our volunteers, vendors, community organizations, and everyone who helped bring the event to life. Your support makes these community gatherings possible.

Oakville Chamber Leaders’ Reception Highlights Healthcare Innovation
I was pleased to attend the 2026 Oakville Chamber of Commerce Leaders’ Reception hosted at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. It was an excellent presentation by CEO Melissa Farrell on Halton Healthcare’s 2026–2031 Strategic Plan and vision for a more connected, accessible and coordinated healthcare system across Halton.
I also had the opportunity to tour the operating rooms and see innovative approaches to tonsillectomy and endovascular aneurysm repair, advances that can improve patient outcomes and streamline care by reducing pressure on the emergency healthcare system.
Thank you to the Halton Healthcare team for an inspiring evening and for your continued commitment to delivering connected and convenient care, close to home.

Advocating for Low-Income Families
I had an informative meeting with Linda, Jennifer, and Judith, who are volunteers with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. I heard their concerns regarding Ontario Works and the affordability challenges facing low-income families. Their recommendations include indexing Ontario Works to inflation and increasing the amount that can be earned before any clawback.
Ontario Works was designed to provide temporary financial assistance, health benefits and employment supports to help people access essential services and work toward greater financial independence. Thank you for sharing your experience and for advocating for vulnerable members of our community.

Honouring the Life and Legacy of Otto Jelinek
We remember and honour the remarkable life of Otto Jelinek, who passed away peacefully on September 5 at the age of 86.
From arriving in Canada as a young refugee and making his home in Oakville, Otto went on to become a World Figure Skating Pairs Champion, Olympian, successful businessman, Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister, and Canada’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
He was a proud and active member of our Oakville community for many years, and his warmth, humour, generosity, and love for Canada touched so many people.
I had the pleasure of knowing Otto in Ottawa when be served so ably in the Cabinet of Progressive Conservative Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.
My sincere sympathies to his beloved wife, Leata, his sons Misha and Jamie, his sister Maria, and the entire Jelinek family.
Otto leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of public service and dedication to Canada. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the Oakville community.
Honouring Ontario and Canadian Filmmakers at TIFF
What a wonderful reception hosted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to celebrate Ontario and Canadian films and filmmakers during the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.
Ontario is home to a world-class film and television industry that showcases our creativity, drives economic growth, and shares Canadian stories with audiences around the globe. As the Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, it was inspiring to meet with filmmakers, industry leaders and talented individuals whose work strengthens and elevates our cultural sector.
It was great fun to walk the red carpet with some of my colleagues, which was a first for me at Queen’s Park. Click here to watch the video
