Oakville North-Burlington Newsletter September 19, 2025

September 19, 2025

“To improve access to health care to Ontarians and further reduce pressure on Ontario’s health-care system, the Ontario government is consulting on expanding the scopes of practice for regulated health professionals, including optometrists, psychologists, and physiotherapists. These changes aim to deliver more connected, convenient care and allow providers to fully use their training.
Proposed updates include:
Allowing optometrists to perform minor surgeries under local anesthesia, use laser treatments, and independently manage open-angle glaucoma;
Permitting psychologists with specialized training to prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests; and
Authorizing professionals such as dental hygienists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, and speech-language pathologists to order and perform diagnostic imaging like x-rays, MRIs, and CT scans”. —MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos

Oakville North-Burlington Annual Community BBQ

I would like to thank everyone who joined me and my colleague MPP Natalie Pierre for our annual Community BBQ at Norton Community Park.
It was a wonderful afternoon filled with community spirit, great food, and family fun. A special thank you to the internationally award-winning Burlington Teen Tour Band for their incredible performance, and to all the volunteers who helped make the event such a success.
We were also pleased our colleagues Stephen Crawford, Stephen Lecce, Dawn Gallagher Murphy, and Rudy Cuzzetto came out to celebrate with our community.
Events like these remind us of the importance of coming together and celebrating the place we call home.

Working Together to Advance Gender Equality in Our Community

Today I had the pleasure of meeting with Tina, Joey and Gayle from Advancement of Women Halton (AWH), for a thoughtful discussion on supporting women in our community.

It was inspiring to discuss ways to better support women in our community, especially around expanding child care education and increasing access to affordable housing.

Thank you for your tireless work advocating for gender equality and women’s rights in our community since 2008.

Nihal’s Visit to our Community Office

Nihal has shown strong leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to community service, qualities that make him a great fit for this opportunity.

The Legislative Page Program gives Grade 7 and 8 students a chance to spend several weeks at Queen’s Park, assisting MPPs in the Chamber and learning firsthand about how our democracy works.

Honouring Farmers and Agri-Innovation at the International Plowing Match in Grassie

I was honoured to join Premier Doug Ford, my caucus colleagues, and many others from across Ontario at this year’s International Plowing Match held in Grassie, Ontario.
The IPM remains one of our province’s most valued traditions, bringing together farmers, producers, and communities to celebrate the dedication and innovation that drive Ontario’s agricultural sector.
Thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and farm families for their commitment to showcasing the very best of rural Ontario.

Celebrating Chile’s National Day and Strengthening Ontario-Chile Relations

I was delighted to deliver remarks at Queen’s Park to celebrate Chile’s National Day and raise the Chilean flag alongside Consul General Fernando Morales Godoy, members of the Consular Corps, and community leaders.
Fiestas Patrias is a time for Chileans and Chilean-Canadians to reflect on the rich traditions of their heritage. Here in Ontario, nearly 46,000 Canadians trace their roots to Chile, and their contributions enrich the fabric of our province.
Canada and Chile share a proud partnership—nearly 30 years ago, our countries signed the Canada–Chile Free Trade Agreement, one of Canada’s earliest and most important trade accords. Beyond trade, we work side by side in global organizations like the UN, WTO, OAS, APEC, and OECD, united by our shared values of democracy, open markets, and multilateral cooperation.
