Visiting Oakville North-Burlington’s Brand New School
This week, I had the pleasure of joining Education Minister Jill Dunlop at Oakville North-Burlington’s brand new St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School.
Through a $24.4 million investment, this facility now provides a modern, innovative learning environment for 671 elementary students, offering them a safe learning environment to grow, learn, and thrive.
As our community grows, our government will continue to invest in the future of our students and their families.
We are getting it done!
Celebrating 50 Years of the HRPS
Last night, I had the privilege of celebrating 50 years of service at the Golden Jubilee Gala and marking the historic launch of Ontario’s first Police Foundation. The funds raised will support the Halton Police Foundation, dedicated to helping youth-at-risk and vulnerable populations in our community.
It was wonderful to be joined by, Premier Doug Ford, Ministers Michael Kerzner and Stephen Crawford, and fellow MPPs Natalie Pierre and Zee Hamid as we came together to ensure a safer, stronger Halton for the next 50 years and beyond.
Congratulations to the Fall 2024 PEO Graduates!
Excited to see the success of the 2024 Professional Engineers Ontario Fall Licence Presentation Ceremony! Congratulations to all the new licensees—your hard work and dedication have paid off. Ontario’s future is bright with your talent and skills leading the way. Best of luck in your careers ahead!
Norbec Opens State-of-the-art Manufacturing Plant in Ontario
This week, Norbec, a leading North American manufacturer of insulated metal panels, walk-in coolers, and freezers, announced the grand opening of its new $45 million manufacturing plant in Strathroy, Ontario. This milestone marks Norbec’s first plant in Ontario and the third in Canada, alongside its well-established facilities in Boucherville and Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.
Middlesex County is home to a well-trained and experienced workforce, and the right support necessary for advanced manufacturing operations to thrive. Once fully operational, the new plant will create 70 new, meaningful jobs for local workers – from plant managers to production operators, engineers, and maintenance staff.
“Norbec is committed to being an employer of choice, offering our employees a modern and comfortable workplace that embodies our commitment to quality and innovation, and we are immensely proud to be opening our first plant in Ontario today,” said Jan Lembregts, President of Norbec. “With its proximity to London and Sarnia, this new plant will establish Norbec as a go-to local supplier in Ontario and help establish Middlesex County as a leader in specialized architectural manufacturing. This facility represents a significant step in our growth strategy, allowing us to better serve our customers in Ontario and the booming Midwest U.S. markets.”
The $45 million investment in this ultramodern facility underscores Norbec’s commitment to expanding its presence in Ontario, and to meeting the increasing demand for high-performance insulated solutions. This expansion is a crucial step in Norbec’s growth strategy, aimed at better serving customers with an innovative and broader product range.
“Ontario is the manufacturing powerhouse of the nation, and Norbec’s decision to launch their first facility in Ontario demonstrates that our government is fostering the right conditions for growth, and more good-paying jobs for our province’s talented workforce,” said Effie J. Triantafilopoulos, MPP for Oakville North—Burlington and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade.
“Our government was proud to support Norbec’s investment with $1.5M from our Regional Development Program. The cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities of this new facility will help to establish Middlesex County as a leader in specialized architectural manufacturing and allow Norbec to become a go-to local supplier to Ontario and northern U.S. markets.”
Strengthening Ontario-Liberia Trade Relations
It was an honour to represent Premier Doug Ford and Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli at the 2024 Liberia Investment Forum.
During our bilateral meeting, His Excellency President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and I discussed how to further strengthen Ontario-Liberia economic ties and our jurisdictions’ shared interests in economic opportunities in the mining, energy, agriculture and infrastructure sectors.
In 2023, two-way trade between Ontario and Liberia reached $29.5M, a 54% increase since 2022!
Ontario Investing in New Supports to Address Gender-based Violence
The Ontario government has launched a call for proposals for new community-based projects that support survivors of gender-based violence. These initiatives will focus on preventing violence through education and awareness, building safer, healthier communities and enhancing well-being and economic opportunities for people and families.
Ontario is investing $100 million over the next three years in its four-year, cross-government action plan to combat gender-based violence, building on the province’s existing investments of $1.4 billion over four years to end gender-based violence and support victims.
“Our government is continuing to take action to end violence against women and girls in all its forms,” said Michael Parsa, Minister of Children, Community and Social Services. “We know that preventing gender-based violence before it occurs is critical to breaking the cycle of abuse. This call for proposals will fund projects that address violence and tackle its root causes. By focusing on prevention, we are working towards safer and healthier communities for generations to come.”
The call for proposals is now open until October 11, 2024. Organizations with innovative projects or approaches that help prevent or address gender-based violence are invited to apply. The province will invest in projects that respond to the needs of local communities in four key areas:
- education and awareness
- early intervention and prevention
- community planning and service integration
- economic security and financial independence
