Celebration Savis Halton on their 35th anniversary
I would like to recognize Savis Halton on their 35th anniversary. Thank you for your commitment and advocacy for survivors of violence and promoting prevention through community education. So honoured that Minister Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of women’s social and economic opportunity recognized the exceptional work done by Savis Halton over the years.
At Queen’s Park, we raised the Survivor’s Flag in honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, with special recognition to the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) for their vital role in advocating for Indigenous women and families.
Their leadership in preserving culture, advancing truth, and promoting healing has been instrumental in the journey toward reconciliation.
The Survivor’s Flag stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, and we are committed to supporting the ongoing work of Indigenous women in this effort.
Ontario Exploring Feasibility of New Highway 401 Tunnel Expressway
This week, the Ontario government launched the technical evaluation for the construction of a new driver and transit tunnel expressway under Highway 401. This expressway is expected to provide a new, faster route for some of the most gridlocked roadways in the province north of the City of Toronto, extending from beyond Brampton and Mississauga in the west to beyond Markham and Scarborough in the east. This project is expected to significantly reduce traffic in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) while supporting economic growth during construction and in the long-term by helping to get goods and services to market sooner.
Engineering services will be secured through the Ministry of Transportation, with support from Infrastructure Ontario. The feasibility work will include the following:
- Examining various options to increase Highway 401 capacity, including potential routes within the existing right-of-way, number of lanes, length, and the number and design of interchanges connecting to other highways;
- Refining the province’s understanding of the proposed tunnel’s economic contributions, both in the short- and long-term, as well as the project’s impact on reducing gridlock;
- Reviewing best practices from similar projects in other jurisdictions;
- Conducting initial soil boring testing to improve the province’s understanding of the route’s geology and its impact on design and construction;
- Preparing to start the environmental assessment processes for the project; and
- Conducting an initial market sounding, with feedback informing any potential procurement and commercial structuring strategies.
Additionally, the province will begin meaningful consultations with First Nations communities about the potential project.
Consistent with the Get It Done Act, 2024, this new expressway would not be tolled.

Ontario Celebrates $200 Million Manufacturing Investment in Port Colborne
The Ontario government is welcoming a $200 million investment by Jungbunzlauer to expand its existing facility in Port Colborne, which will create 50 new jobs and strengthen regional supply chains.
This investment will enable the company to expand production of xanthan gum at its Port Colborne facility, to meet rising demand in North America. Jungbunzlauer is the only producer of xanthan gum in Canada. This fermented sugar is used to thicken and stabilize products across sectors such as food and beverages, health care, animal feed, personal care, detergents and various industrial applications.
It’s expected that the project will increase the demand for Ontario-grown corn, creating valuable spin-off effects across the supply chain. In support of this investment, Ontario is providing $4.8 million in funding through the Invest Ontario Fund.
