“As students across our community head back to school this week, I want to wish everyone – students, parents and teachers – a safe and inspiring school year.
It’s also with great pleasure that I announced that Harvest Oak Public School in Oakville opened its doors to its first cohort of students. The Ontario government, through its investment of $30 million has provided the new school with 788 elementary student spaces and 88 licenced childcare spaces for the 2025-2026 school year. The new school ensures that Oakville families have access to a modern, welcoming learning environment close to home. We are committed to providing students and educators with the resources they need to thrive in safe and innovative spaces. These efforts reflect our ongoing dedication to strengthening education and childcare across Ontario.” – MPP Effie Triantafilopoulos.

Provided Remarks at the Flag Raising for Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day

As Deputy Speaker of the Ontario Legislature, I was honoured to provide remarks and participate in the flag raising ceremony marking Ukraine’s 34th Independence Day. This celebration is a reminder of the resilience, courage, and heritage of the Ukrainian people and the deep bonds between Ukraine and Canada.
Just last year, the Ontario Legislature unanimously passed the Ukrainian Heritage Month Act, officially designating September as Ukrainian Heritage Month.
As we raised the Ukrainian flag, we also reflected on the immense challenges faced by the people of Ukraine with the ongoing war. Ontarians have welcomed thousands of displaced Ukrainian families with open arms—offering not just shelter, but also compassion, solidarity, and a sense of community.
