TORONTO — This week, Oakville resident Sandev Singh Purewal was recognized with the prestigious 2025 Queen Elizabeth II Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship during a ceremony hosted by the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The event brought together outstanding 20 individuals being awarded the 2024 and 2025 Medal from across the province whose long-standing contributions have strengthened their communities and improved the lives of others.
Mr. Purewal is being honoured for nearly two decades of dedicated service to advancing child safety, access to justice, and legal mentorship throughout Ontario. As the founder of Peel’s Helmets on Kids, he has helped provide thousands of children with bicycle helmets and essential safety education. His leadership as Past President of both the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton has further supported vulnerable individuals and championed fairness across the province.
In addition, Mr. Purewal’s mentorship through organizations such as the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers and the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto continues to inspire and guide the next generation of legal professionals.
The Queen Elizabeth II Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship (renamed in tribute to the late monarch), is the province’s second-highest civilian honour, recognizing individuals whose exceptional, long-term efforts have made a lasting and meaningful impact on their communities and helped build a stronger Ontario and Canada.
The ceremony also included remarks from the Honourable Edith Dumont and Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Graham McGregor, who joined in celebrating this year’s distinguished recipients.
Ontarians are encouraged to submit nominations by November 15, 2026, through the program’s application portal.
